In our first German-themed concert, we combine forces with Orchestra Wellington for Brahms’A German Requiem – one of the most beautiful works in the choral repertoire.
Madeleine Pierard – Soprano
Robert Tucker – Baritone
A German Requiem is not the music of mourning, but an intensely epic, lush and romantic reflection that speaks to life, love and loss. The composer himself said an equally relevant title for this work would be the “Human Requiem.” Lovingly created after the passing of his mother, Brahms chose to do away with divine judgement, instead offering a deeply moving work for those who are left behind. While the music evokes that of Schumann, Beethoven and Bach it is unmistakably Brahmsian, with its palpable intensity and overwhelming scale.
